Magnolia Bark (Hou Po) Used to combat hospital "superbug"



Magnolia bark or 'Hou Po' has been shown in research as a very effective treatment against microbacteria. One form of bacteria 'micobacterium smegmatis' (the one that causes leprosy and a form of tuberculosis), was treated with a boiled preparation of hou po and an ethanol extraction. The boiled preparation showed a result similar to streptomysin and the ethanol extraction out performed streptomycin by 20%.
